Talcum Powder Lawsuit – Justice for Women Diagnosed with Ovarian and Related Cancers

For decades, Johnson & Johnson marketed talcum powder products like Johnson’s Baby Powder as safe for daily use. However, mounting evidence has revealed a disturbing connection between long-term talcum powder use and serious gynecological cancers, including ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, and primary peritoneal cancer.

More than 65,000 women have filed lawsuits, claiming these products caused their cancer diagnoses. The first trial in this massive multi-district litigation (MDL) has been selected — a critical step forward in holding manufacturers accountable. Many of these claims involve women who used talcum powder for personal hygiene over extended periods, unaware of the hidden risks they were taking.

In 1971, Dark & Lovely introduced the first lye-based hair relaxer, and since then, companies like L’Oréal and others have marketed these products heavily to African American women, promoting Eurocentric beauty ideals. Studies show that up to 90% of Black and Brown women have used hair relaxers. In 2020, the global Black haircare market was valued at $2.5 billion, with the hair relaxer segment alone projected to grow from $718 million in 2021 to $854 million by 2028.

Case Criteria:

You may qualify if you used chemical relaxers five (5) or more times per year, with a minimum of four (4) years between first use and cancer diagnosis, and were diagnosed with:

  • Uterine/Endometrial cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Uterine fibroids (only if treated with hysterectomy or myomectomy)

Evidence Needed:

  • Product name, purchase details, frequency, salon info (if used)
  • Receipts, photos, product packaging, or witnesses
  • Medical records, pathology reports, and oncology records

The lawsuit is part of a federal MDL in Illinois, and it is not a class action. Involved products include Revlon, Dark & Lovely, SoftSheen-Carson, Just For Me, ORS, Motions, L'Oréal, and others.
